Mako Mania Shark Tournament

In just a few short weeks one of Ocean City’s top events will take place over the course of 2 days. Now in its 20th year, the Mako Mania Shark Tournament is the start of the tournament season at Bahia Marina and it continues to grow in popularity each year. The tournament first began in 1996 and sees entrants competing to bring in the biggest mako shark with added entry levels for bluefish and thresher sharks as well.

One thing which makes the Mako Mania Shark Tournament different from other tournaments of this kind is that boats of any size can compete and providing the weather is fair there are daily weigh-ins from 4pm to 7pm.

Whether you want to enter yourself or you just want to come down and take part in the festivities, grab yourself this Grand Hotel Ocean City promo code and make a weekend of it in Ocean City. You can enjoy refreshments and good food whilst watching the tournament or head off to explore the rest of the Marina and the surrounding area. Up and down the Marina you will find all kinds of restaurants which look out over the waterfront; and the Marina is very easy to access from outside of Ocean City as well.

Reaching Bahia Marina from the mainland is very easy with the Ocean City Expressway and the Ocean Gateway both providing access if you are travelling by car or cab and once you have arrived and settled into your hotel then there will be no need to leave the area again for the duration of your trip with so much to see and do right from the doorstep of your hotel.

There are a number of popular attractions which can be reached from both the Bahia Marina and the Grand Hotel Ocean City and these include the likes of the Jolly Rogers Amusement Park which is the perfect place to head if you are travelling as a family. It would take around 5 minutes via car or you could make the 25 minute walk and take in some of the sights as you go. Simply head north along Baltimore Avenue towards 22nd Street; you will find games, rides, refreshment kiosks and stunning views of the harbor from the tallest Ferris Wheel in Ocean City. Another great family friendly attraction is the Splash Mountain Waterpark which is a 13 minute walk from the hotel in the same direction as Jolly Rogers Amusement Park. This waterpark features pools for smaller children, a 45-foot stealth slide, a wave pool and plenty more for adults and children alike to enjoy.

For more adult entertainment you could make the 13 minute drive back across Ocean Gateway to the Casino at Ocean Downs which is the perfect venue if the weather doesn’t turn up or you simply fancy a night out after watching the tournament during the day.

Other attractions worth considering include the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum, the Ocean City Boardwalk and Assateague Island State Park.
