Worcester County Library – The Ocean City Branch

With a tagline which states that ‘Books are just the beginning’ you would be right to consider that the Ocean City branch of the Worcester County Library is about more than just discovering your next read.  Open every day bar Sunday, this library has a whole program of exciting events from making your own race cars to workshops with independent writers.

If you are staying in one of the hotels in Ocean City Maryland then it is very easy to reach the library; the Coastal Highway Beach Bus travels along the entire stretch of the coastal highway and you can ride for just $3 a day making it a very cost-effective and convenient way to get around Ocean City as well.  From the Grand Hotel, for example, it would be a 3 minute walk to the transit station and then 25 minutes on the bus up to the library with the views of the surrounding coast to keep you occupied as you travel followed by less than a minutes walk to reach the library and begin your next reading adventure.

Once you have finished exploring the library there are a number of places you might be interested to head; perhaps for something to eat or to enjoy some shopping before you travel back down the coast.  You have a couple of options if you want something to eat; south of the library you have Blue Fish which is a restaurant offering Japanese and sushi inspired cuisine, Trattoria Lombardi’s restaurant for those who want unfussy Italian food and Liquid Assets which offers a casual dining environment serving American food alongside their wine and craft beer store.  North of the library you can find Denny’s, a chain restaurant which offers classic American dishes to be enjoyed.

There are also a number of shopping establishments nearby if you wanted to indulge in a little retail therapy before heading back to the Marina proper and your hotel for the night.  These include Gold Coast Mall which is north of the library, close to Denny’s and provides a good selection of stores including clothing, gifts, specialty items and beauty services alongside 4 or 5 restaurants.  North of the Gold Coast Mall you also have the Ocean City Square Shopping Centre and just a short distance from the Ocean City Branch you have Roses Stores which is a discount store for clothing, homeware, health and beauty and toys amongst other items.

Other attractions you might want to visit once you have explored the library include the Art League of Ocean City which has been described often as a ‘diamond in the rough’ and which features the work of local artists, Northside Park, Fox Gold Coast Theatre and Ocean City Beach.
